Principal's Updates - 5/3/19

May 3, 2019

Dear Families,

What a wonderful, enriching week we had here at our great school.  Thank you for your participation and support of our annual Walk for Haiti. This is such a great event!

Monday several Middle School students and I attended a talk at the Saint Pope John Paul Columbia campus by the well know speaker Jason Evert. Jason is the creator of The Chastity Project. We are grateful to the Archdiocese of Boston for offering this opportunity to our students.

Thanks to Mrs. Gamere, Charlie and Josh's mother, I was able to take the 5-8th graders on a walking field trip to the jubilee Church to experience the Compassion Experience.  The Compassion Experience  is an interactive experience was created to share some of the realities of children living in extreme poverty. The Experience gives visitors a chance to see life for some children from a different perspective..

We were given headsets and invited on an audio-guided journey through wheelchair-accessible and kid-friendly exhibit space, featuring replicas of the homes and environments of real children who have grown up under the weight of extreme poverty. We experienced their journeys from poverty to hope and experienced new countries and cultures along the way.

On Thursday the Middle School students had another walking field trip. This time to Fontbonne Academy where we saw a performance of The Pianist of Willisden Lane. This was the story of a young Jewish pianist who escapes Vienna via the Kindertransport, arriving in England at the outset of World War II. In a stunning, nationally-acclaimed performance, concert pianist Mona Golabek recounts her mother's poignant saga of hope and resilience, underscored with extraordinary music from Bach, Beethoven, and many more. Many thanks to Fontbonne Academy for providing this rich educational experience to us.

The sounds of joy are all around me each day as I watch and listen to the students preparing for the Celebrate Us Cultural Night on May 13th , and the Spring Musical May 10-11th. Projects are being researched and created, beautiful artwork is being done, and so much practicing! Please mark your calendars for these two special events. We are so proud of the talents of our incredible students and staff.

Don't forget that there will be two major fundraisers that will take the place of the annual Gala. This year there will be a Fun Run on May 17th. The funds raised will go towards Campus Improvements and Programming needs.  The other major event is a Carnival from May 31-June 2.

As always I hope that you have a fun weekend filled with family time and moments that you will always.

God Bless,

Mrs. Julie Marotta

Principal
