Principal's Update - 10/19/18

Dear Families,

This week I was able to sit in on classes where students were investigating the process of osmosis through cell membranes, painting pumpkins, writing essays about spending a day with Jesus, reading, solving problems, discussing what made Langston Hughes such a renowned author, estimating the weight of pumpkins, learning about economics, singing, presenting, and learning about the world around them.

Today during our monthly faculty meeting the teachers and I met with Dr. Andrew Miller, the Director of Academics at the Catholic Schools Office. He was very impressed with our rigorous curriculum and attention to teaching your children using the Massachusetts Common Core and State Standards in addition to focusing on the religious and social issues as stated in the Academic Benchmarks put out by the Archdiocese of Boston. He said a lot of schools are not in the position that we are in as far as our alignment and student success. I am very proud of all the hard work that has been done thus far and promise to continue improving.

A big thank you to Mr. Lydon, father of Carly in Grade 5, for donating reams of paper to our school. We certainly go through a lot of paper and appreciate his generosity.

Tonight promises to be a fun night at St Mary of the Hills because Mr. A. and his basketball players are hosting a Video Game night fundraiser here at school. The students are so excited to see who the big winner will be! There will be pizza and drinks for sale and it's $5 to enter the competition. The excitement begins at 4:30!

Keep selling your Football Raffle tickets! Students are selling at masses this weekend and at Roche Brothers Supermarket. Remember all money directly benefits the students at our incredible school. As I always say together we can do such great things!

Reminder: On Friday, November 9th we will have our annual Veteran's Day/Grandparent celebration. Mrs. Juanita Dessources has agreed to lead the organization of this beautiful morning. Please email her at if you can help her. I know that she would appreciate your assistance.

I hope that you all have a safe and restful weekend filled with lots of family time.

God Bless,

Mrs. Julie Marotta
