Principal's Update - 10/5/18

October 5, 2018

Dear Families,

It is hard to believe that we are in the month of October. Everyone has really settled nicely into their new routines. With the chilly mornings students will be wearing jackets and sweaters to school. They often take them off when playing outside. Please label all coats, sweaters, and hats. Believe it or not the lost and found pile is growing and items are not labeled. If your child is missing something please come check the pile.

This week I was able to sit in on classes where scientific investigations were happening, 1st Friday letters were being written, songs were sung, fall pictures were painted, math problems were being solved, Saint research papers were presented, and many books were read. I am so fortunate to have a staff that welcomes me into their classes and lets me experience all the great learning that is taking place at our wonderful school. The teachers at St. Mary of the Hills are so talented and committed. Many are taking courses outside of school to improve their teaching practices. Others are collaborating with each other to learn new strategies. At our last faculty meeting the teachers worked in groups to develop a vision for St. Mary of the Hills going forward. I received some incredible ideas that I will bring to the Board. Your children are so blessed to receive instruction from these caring professionals.

Grade 7 students, their teacher Mrs. Banach, and Mrs. Vasta did a wonderful job of leading us in celebrating the life of St Francis on his feast day. It is always so rewarding for the school community to celebrate together in mass.

On Tuesday of next week the entire Middle School will be on retreat at Tree Top Adventures in Canton.  I ask that you keep them in your prayers as I know they will pray for all of us.

The next picture day is on October 16th. This will be a full uniform dress day as class pictures will be taken.

On Friday, November 9th we will have our annual Veteran's Day/Grandparent celebration. Mrs. Juanita Dessources has agreed to lead the organization of this beautiful morning. Please email her at Juanita.Dessources@childrens.harvard.edu if you can help her. I know that she would appreciate your assistance.

I hope that you all have a safe and restful weekend filled with lots of family time.

God Bless, Mrs. Julie Marotta ~ Principal
