Principal's Update - 9/28/18
I am so proud of the wonderful work our students did on the NWEA/MAPS testing in Grades 2-8. The new programs we have put in place and the updated curriculum have helped the students to achieve such tremendous growth. I am also proud of my faculty for their tireless efforts in making this happen. They have adopted new and innovative instructional practices which encourage students to learn by doing and offers them a chance to explain their solutions to problems. Our reading program starts in Kindergarten with Wilson Fundations with an emphasis on letter sounds and ultimately has students beginning to read and be assessed at the beginning of Grade 1. This continues through grade 5 and students are put into leveled reading groups. Students are reassessed during the year and their growth is tracked and interventions are put in place to close any gaps. The addition of additional Math support has already made a great impact on getting students the supports they need to reach grade level expectations.
I hope that many of you are selling the football raffle tickets that went home last week. There are incentives for the students to help us reach milestones during the fundraising process. One includes the entire faculty and staff dyeing their hair!!!
Starting Monday, Ms. Veitz will be running a student estimation challenge. For $1 students can guess the number of pieces of candy in a jar. The student who guesses the closest without going over wins the jar of candy. It will happen the 1st week of each month going forward. Money earned will go towards conservation efforts here at St Mary of the Hills.
As always, please contact me or the office staff if you have any questions or concerns. My commitment to you and your children is of utmost importance to me.
I wish you a wonderful weekend filled with lots of family time with your beautiful children.
God Bless, Mrs. Julie Marotta ~ Principal
