As I type this letter I am sitting in my office in a quiet school building. It does not seem natural. Schools are meant to be filled with the joy and excitement that children bring.
Last week we had to say goodbye to some of our staff members. Fr. Wright said his last school Mass on Friday, June 15th. It was an emotional day for all of us but we wish him a restful and well deserved retirement. He gave so much of himself to our school community over the past 16 years and we are forever grateful.
Mrs. Field and Mrs. Duffy retired after many dedicated years serving the students of St Mary of the Hills. These fine educators will be missed and we wish them all the best as they settle into the life of retirement.
Mr. DeLuca will not be returning in September. He is pursuing other employment opportunities and we wish him well.
Next year Mrs. McNally will be teaching Spanish to Grades 1-8. I am so excited to bring this back to St Mary of the Hills. Mrs. McNally has many years of teaching experience and I feel very fortunate to be able to add this to the curriculum.
Mrs. Faherty will be in a new role as the Literacy Coach for Grades K-8. She will provide reading support in the classrooms, pull out students who need more support, and help with reading assessments. I am thrilled to offer this as part of our daily work.
Our Middle School will look different next year. The students in Grades 6-8 will be housed on the 3rd floor and will be instructed by the following teachers:
Mr. Faherty ~ Grade 6 Homeroom, Language Arts, Reading, and Writing Grades 6-8
Ms. Veitz ~ Grade 6 Homeroom, Science Grades 6-8
Mrs. Banach ~ Grade 7 Homeroom, Social Studies Grades 6-8
Mrs. Ruggiero ~ Grade 8 Homeroom, Mathematics Grades 6-8
Each homeroom teacher will teach Religion
I have a request. Our incredible PTO chair, Mrs. Raymond needs to step down and I desperately need someone to lead the PTO. I have some ideas that may make the lunch program more manageable. If anyone is interested please let me know.
I will also be reaching out to a few parents to help collaborate on the Discipline Policy. We are entering the 3rd year of using it and I need your feedback and opinions to make it even better.
As always, my door is always open. I am here most of the summer. If you have questions or concerns please feel free to stop by or give me a call.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful children with us. I hope that you all have a safe and restful summer vacation making memories.
Mrs. Julie Marotta
