Principal's Update - 10/27/17

October 27, 2017

Dear Families,

I am a very proud principal!  I was so fortunate to celebrate Mass with Bishop Reed and five of our Peter Lynch Scholars.  We at St Mary's are very blessed to have the financial support of Peter Lynch and the Catholic Schools Foundation. Without their support the dream of a Catholic education might not be reached for some students.

The Color Fun Run on Saturday was a tremendous success. Everyone had such a great time being together as a community. Thank you to the PTO and the many volunteers for making this such a success. I overheard some students talking and they said "I'm never going to leave this school!" That says it all.

On Tuesday afternoon Officer Maria Poles talked to the Grade 6-8 students about Internet Safety and Bullying. Officer Poles is a great resource for all of the Milton Schools and enlightened all of us on the importance of using social media in a responsible way.

As always the classrooms are filled with creative and innovative learning experiences.  This week I watched as the 7th graders learned about the periodic table of elements, 2nd graders adding 3 2-digit numbers, 4th graders creating wind socks of literature genres and creating fossils, 1st graders estimating, 3rd graders learning about plural possessive nouns, 6th graders writing scary stories, 5th graders doing science investigations, 8th graders reflecting on their study of the film "God is not Dead".  Our incredible ECC enjoyed a week filled with reading scary stories, creating beautiful fall decorations, practicing math skills, estimating, visiting a Pumpkin patch, enjoying a visit from Milton Fire Department and learning to love school.

The N.J.H.S and the Student Council will be collecting leftover Halloween Candy that will be sent to the troops oversees.  Donations may be left in the stage until next Friday November 3, 2017.

I was very happy to come to school today with Blue Hair! I promised the students I would do that if they met the PTO's fundraising goal for the Color Fun Run. I was told that I looked like a SMURF by some students and Joy from the Incredibles by others. Let's keep selling those Football Raffle tickets! Who knows what I'll do if we meet our $50,000 goal!

As always, I hope that you all have a safe and restful weekend filled with lots of family time.

Take care.

Mrs. Julie Marotta
