SMH Raises $26K for Science Program!

St. Mary of the Hills School Raises $26K Through Football Fundraiser

The St. Mary of the Hill School community in Milton is pleased to announce they have collectively raised $26,000 to support their new science program. The fundraiser was organized by Mrs. Susan Banach who teaches 7th and 8th grade social studies and science. Mrs.Banach donated 2 tickets to see the New England Patriots play against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Pittsburgh. The grand prize also included a hotel stay and a $500 Visa gift card. The drawing was done by Father Wright, who pulled Kathy Whelton of Brigham and Women’s Hospital as the grand prize winner!

Every family was asked to sell 10 raffle tickets, resulting in the success of the campaign. Banach launched selling initiatives to the students to see who could sell the most tickets. Kindergartener, Xion Rondo, won an iPad for selling over 300 tickets at $10 each. Second place went to 8th grader, Isabel Alvarado, for selling over 200 tickets. Alvarado was awarded with a $100 gift card. The kindergarten and 8th grade classes will be rewarded with an ice cream party for being the top selling classrooms. Students that sold all 10 of their tickets were entered into a separate raffle to win a $100 gift card. The winner of the student sales raffle was pre-kindergarten student, Declan Brown.

St. Mary’s will be using the money raised to support the new STREAM curriculum. New textbooks, science materials, iPads, and science tables will be purchased for the classrooms. The money will also support the 7th and 8th grade field trips to Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where they will be participating in hands on science labs and learning from the best technology and engineering university in the world.

As an act of appreciation for all of Mrs. Banach’s hard work, the 8th grade students worked together to host a “Thank You Breakfast.” Led by National Junior Honor Society Treasurer, Aoidin Salmon of Milton, Salmon says “We just want to show Mrs. Banach how grateful we are for everything she does for our school.”

Banach humbly wants everyone to know that this was a team effort by the entire St. Mary of the Hills School Community. “We couldn’t have done it without the amazing families and students we have here. Thank you all.”
