The Kindergarten curriculum at St. Mary of the Hills School builds on the child’s previous experiences and aims at balancing relaxed play and choice times with structured work times that meet the academic, spiritual, social and emotional needs of the five year old. Working in centers throughout the classroom provides each child with the opportunity to explore and be challenged in areas such as reading, writing, math, science, social studies and art. All of these activities are enhanced by our exciting “Around the World” curriculum through which the children learn about many different countries, customs and cultures from A-Z!
Kindergarten is using Fundations, which is a new multisensory structured language program. This program was developed by Wilson® and brings more than a decade of systematic and explicit instruction to our classrooms. Based on the Wilson Reading System® principles, Wilson Fundations® provides research-based materials and strategies essential to a comprehensive reading, spelling, and handwriting program. Wilson Fundations® makes learning to read fun while laying the groundwork for lifelong literacy. Students are receiving a systematic program in critical foundational skills.
