Mrs. Christina M. Hughes, Computer Teacher Faculty and Staff St. Mary of the Hills School is an absolute joy to come to every day because I love what I do here, and I look forward to it every single day. It’s also very special to me because my son attended St. Mary of the Hills from PreK through Eighth Grade. I love St. Mary of the Hills School because it provides students with a top-notch educational experience in a safe, nurturing environment where they can learn, grow, and feel very comfortable expressing their views and opinions, which are respected. Finally, St. Mary of the Hills School is a very inclusive environment that embraces people of all cultures and backgrounds, and it feels like one big, happy family." Christina Hughes came to St. Mary of the Hills School in September 2004, has been a computer teacher for over 20 years, and has been working on computers for almost 40 years. She created a manual, “Creating Technokids,” with activities for children to explore technology. She is also the go-to person at St. Mary of the Hills School for any technical issues. She updates the school website and posts school happenings on social media to market the school. She is so passionate about using technology with students, that she consistently demonstrates new ways for students to incorporate technology into their learning. She is always on the lookout for great new websites and tools for students to use. Recently, she found a great scholastic website “BeInternetAwesome,” where students learn how to become safe, confident explorers on the internet by playing a fun, interactive game online. Christina is also a health coach and triathlete. She’s completed many 5Ks, 10Ks, Half Marathons, Duathlons, Triathlons, and Half Ironman competitions. This is the fifth year in a row that she’s run the Healthy Habits Challenge at St. Mary of the Hills School for faculty and staff, which resulted in some faculty and staff losing upwards of 50lbs., and now many are on the road to living healthier lifestyles. She also ran a Health & Wellness Fundraiser night to raise money for our PTO, and a parent who attended has literally changed her family’s lifestyle resulting in both the husband and wife each losing over 40 pounds each. Finally, Christina is the Vice-Chair & Treasurer of the Middleboro Democratic Town Committee and has run a virtual Health & Wellness Fundraiser to raise money for the MDTC during the pandemic. As you can see, Christina is not only very passionate about living a healthier lifestyle, but she is also inspiring and encouraging others to live healthier lifestyles as well.
