COVID-19 Remote Teaching and Learning

St. Mary of the Hills School is engaged in remote teaching and learning through the end of the 2019-2020 school year, which ends on June 12, 2020. We are conducting school business online and by phone. Applications for the 2020-2021 school year are still being accepted. On March 16, 2020, students and teachers began remote teaching and learning and following new online class schedules to continue their classes through synchronous and asynchronous learning.

Our mission is to keep students engaged, making progress, and occupied with meaningful work while reducing anxiety by maintaining a sense of school community and school continuity. They will also learn important life skills — resilience, generosity, patience, and self-discipline.

As a community, we needed to be patient and flexible as we all adjusted to our new online world, and have gotten better at both the teaching and the learning as the weeks have gone by. Our teachers, through conversations with parents, and each other, regularly assess and adjust our routines and practices to improve the online experience as we become more practiced and adept.

Classes will meet virtually in a way that assures students will not be tied to their screens for extended periods, and times for individual meetings with support instructors and specials are built into their schedules.

As an innovative school we were fortunate to already be using many of these digital platforms and programs in our classes before the closure. Our students are thriving thanks to the support of their families who have partnered with us during this pandemic.
